Darren Owen Wood

Darren Owen Wood peacefully departed this life in San Francisco California, February 9, 2017.

He is the son of Daryl and Sandra Wood of Oak City and brother of Brian, Lora, Nancy Rogers, Alan and Marissa Hathaway. He is the proud uncle of 14 nephews and nieces, and great uncle of one great-nephew.

Darren was born in Farmington NM on April 10, 1970. He graduated with scholarships from Farmington High School in 1988, then attended Westminster College in Salt Lake City. He was a member of the Renaissance Singers. Darren graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science- Psychology degree in 1992.

He achieved a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Utah in 1999. During the 1990’s he worked for Valley Mental Health and Community Nursing Services, serving in hospice and group counseling. He was a volunteer for the AIDS Foundation of Salt Lake City. Darren moved to San Francisco in 2000, where he spent the remaining years of his life. He was a Medical Social Worker at Hospice by the Bay from 2000-2002 and also at UCSF Medical Center from 2000-2005.

Darren’s life passions included photography, music, drama, art and his beloved dog, Olivia. He had a kind and loving soul, always willing to help those in less fortunate situations. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. There will be a celebration of Darren’s life for family and friends at the Acoustic Space at the Gateway Center, Salt Lake City on Saturday, March 25 from 1:30 to 4:30.
