James Alvin Chaplin, 76, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 in his home in Meadow, Utah.

He was born July 29, 1941 in Wabash, Indiana to Loyal and Katherine Miller Chaplin.

Jim was a caring and loving dad to his children and welcomed all people into his home. If you knew Jim and were in need of help, he was someone you could count on to come. He liked to work in his wood shop and enjoyed building toys for his grandchildren for Christmas and their birthdays. Jim was a truck driver for 52 years and had to retire because of his health. He has battled cancer for 13 years. In his retirement years Jim enjoyed fishing so he would go just for the fun of it and usually threw them back in the water.

He is survived by his children: Simon (Natalie) of St. George, UT; Rocky Rodriguez of Fillmore, UT; Bogey (Stephanie Decker) Rodriguez of Meadow, UT; Miguel Rodriguez of Kanosh, UT; Ricardo Rodriguez of Kanosh, UT; Lupe Rodriguez of Kanosh, UT; Corinna Bailey of Paris, Kentucky; Trish of Muncie IN, Lonnie, Danny, Jimmy, and Gracie. Three siblings: Loretta (Richard) of Newman, CA; Harold (Betty) of Wabash, IN; Butch (Connie) of Wabash, IN; 26 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 8 great great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Loyal and Kathrine; son: Larry Chaplin; siblings: Joseph Chaplin, George Chaplin, Dick Chaplin, John Chaplin, Loyal Jr. Chaplin, Ralph Chaplin, Eldridge Chaplin, Patricia Chaplin and Betty Chaplin; two grandchildren: Larry Russell and James Mills.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Olpin Stevens Funeral Home in Fillmore, UT. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
