Robert Dee Nielson, age 89, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 in Delta, Utah.

He was born in on October 26, 1928 near Lynndyl, Utah to LaClead and Eleanor Ashby Nielson. Bob enjoyed growing up on the family farm with his 5 brothers and 1 sister. When he was 12 years old his family moved their home from the farm to Lynndyl, UT. He attended Lynndyl Elementary School through 8th grade. Bob graduated from Delta High School in 1946.

He attended Utah State University where he graduated with a Bachelors degree in Wildlife Management. While there he participated in the Air Force ROTC program.

Bob married Marilyn Shuldberg on August 22, 1950 in the Logan LDS Temple. During the early years of their marriage, Bob and Marilyn lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where Bob served as a 1st Lieutenant and Squadron Commander at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base during the Korean War. In 1955, Bob and Marilyn moved back to Lynndyl so Bob could farm and raise his family. He enjoyed farming, deer hunting and prospecting. He was an optimist who believed the next big gold mine was just around the corner. Bob loved to take his children to feed cows or look for rocks. He had an excellent memory, loved to laugh and tell stories.

He served as Bishop of the Lynndyl Ward (1971-1977). Served in the Utah Water Development Corp (1993-2008), Millard County Water Conservancy District (1968-1993), Millard County Soil Conservation District (1956-1962).

Bob is survived by his wife: Marilyn Shuldberg Nielson; daughters: Renee (Mike) Carter, Mesa, AZ; Maxine (Rich) Hardy, Ammon, ID; Sharon (Jeff) Peterson, Delta, UT; son: Daryl (Wendy) Nielson, Boise, ID; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; brothers: Merrill and Alan. He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Glen; brothers: Howard, Phil and Dean; sister: Carmen Stewart.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 17, at 11 a.m., at the Leamington LDS Chapel, 90 S. Center St, Leamington. Viewings will be held Friday, 6:30-8:00 p.m., at the Nickle Mortuary, 190 S. Center St, Delta; and Saturday morning, 9:30-10:40 a.m., prior to the service. Burial with Military Rites will be at the Lynndyl Cemetery.
