Purpose of Public Notice The Utah Department of Environmental Quality is soliciting comments on its proposal to issue an Underground Injection Control (UIC) Class III Solution Mining Area Permit under the authority of the Utah Water Quality Act, Section 19-5- 104(1)(I) Utah Code Annotated 1953 as amended, and the Utah Administrative Code R317-7. This permit covers the construction of several underground natural gas (NG) storage caverns previously covered by another UIC Class III area permit issued to Magnum Solution Mining, LLC. Permit Information Permittee Name: Magnum Solution Mining, LLC Permittee Mailing Address: 3165 East Millrock Drive, Suite 330 Holladay, Utah 84121 Permitted Facility Location: The Project Area for several Class III Solution Mining wells and NG caverns is centered approximately at 39o 29’ 39” latitude 112o 36’ 20” longitude, NAD83, in the S 1/2 of Sec. 23 and the N 1/2 of Sec. 26, T 15 S, R 7 W; SLB&M in Millard County, Utah approximately 9 miles north of Delta. Magnum Solution Mining, LLC (Magnum) proposes to create several underground natural gas (NG) storage caverns in a salt deposit that has been tectonically thickened. Each of the NG storage caverns will have a maximum open volume of approximately 10.5 million barrels corresponding to a natural gas storage space of 9.8 million barrels. The final cemented casing will be set at least 200 feet into the salt. The roof of the cavern will be established 200 feet below the final cemented casing. The maximum diameter of each cavern is intended to be approximately 300 feet and the open height approximately 1,000 feet. Once each well / cavern system has been completed and passed mechanical integrity testing, regulatory authority for operation and maintenance for natural gas storage will be transferred to the Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining.
