As the Millard and Delta football teams passed each other exchanging high-fives after Friday’s game, Millard player, TJ Stevens, collapsed on the field Friday night, August 24.

Stevens played in most of the game for the Eagles sustaining several hits in the process. He had been cleared to play having had earlier problems with a head injury. He was taken to Delta Community Medical Center and later LifeFlighted to Primary Children’s hospital.

In a conversation with T J’s father, Travis, on Monday afternoon, the newspaper was told that T J had just been moved out of ICU and into a regular hospital room.

“He is doing really well. An earlier MRI showed some blood on the brain. No surgery is scheduled, the doctors don’t want to do anything unnecessary and think things are OK at this point. They said his responses are real good. He is up and talking. We are pretty excited,” said Stevens. “We are hoping he will come home in a few days.

The Stevens family has had many inquiries as to T J’s status and Travis wants everyone to know those inquiries are much appreciated.

“We’ve had calls from everybody, even people we don’t know. There has been a lot of concern from the Delta area. We’d like to thank everybody,” said Stevens. “We’ve been pretty amazed at the support we have received.”
