After 36 years of dedicated service, Leisa Carling is retiring from Fillmore Elementary School. She began her career with Millard School District as an aide. She then worked in many other positions including special education, the planning center, summer school, preschool, kindergarten, and finally, secretary. She has been instrumental in keeping this school running and kids often thank her for owning the school. Leisa, we couldn’t agree more! Our school would not run like it does without your many talents and hard work. Leisa always goes above and beyond. There isn’t enough diet coke in the world to thank her for all she has done to assist her co-workers, the principals she has served and especially the students.

Her countenance brightens the office and her skills are a testament to the many strengths and abilities she has shared with us over the years. Leisa, you will be truly missed. May your retirement be as good to you as you have been to us.

Millard School District

thumb ChappellMug

Greg Chappell will be retiring from Millard School District after 36 years. He began teaching in Millard School District in 1987 as a 4th grade teacher at Delta South Elementary School (DSES). He later had the opportunity to teach 5th grade and even spent a couple of years teaching a combination of 4th and 5th grades. He enjoyed teaching and made many great friends with colleagues and students at DSES.

After 12 years in the classroom, he was hired as the principal at Fillmore Elementary School where he worked for two years. He was then transferred to Fillmore Middle School where he was the principal for three years. He has often said the years in Fillmore were great and the people in the community were accepting and supportive.

Chappell then went back to Delta as the principal at Delta North Elementary School for a year. He was then offered a position at the District Office where he has been the Director of Special Education for the past 18 years. During that time, he also had the opportunity to be the principal at the Delta Early Childhood Center and was able to work with the great faculty, staff, and students at that school.

Chappell has loved his career and the wonderful people he had the opportunity to work with. Most of all, he has enjoyed the experience of watching students learn and succeed in our schools and in life.

Thank you Mr. Chappell for a job well done and best wishes to you on your retirement!

thumb ChristensenMug

Karen Christensen began her teaching career in 1982 with Millard School District after graduating from Southern Utah State University (SUU). She taught 4th grade at Delta South Elementary. In 1984, she married Ken Christensen. They moved to Tempe, Ariz., in 1985 where she taught school until returning to Millard County in 1991. Christensen then taught at Delta South and Delta North Elementary schools.

Christensen said, “I came as a school marm, as Miss Barney, to Millard School District. It is now my home that I love! People are the ‘thing’ I have enjoyed about my career, especially the 4th/5th grade people. I will always love teaching and seeing excitement and light bulbs going off in little heads. The kids kind of become mine.”

Christensen appreciates all the wonderful adults she has worked with, teachers, principals, aides, janitorial staff, and lunch ladies. She said, “You can’t survive 41 years on your own! It takes a good environment with people working together! I have truly been blessed.”

Christensen gives her family credit.

“I have always loved learning about everything. Teaching is a constant learning experience. Teaching has allowed me to be more creative, have fun, and serve, and hopefully, make someone’s life a little better. I have been blessed over these 41 years!”

Allen has been employed for our District for 20 years. Eighteen of those he has resided at Delta Technical Center. Allen is a very dependable person and has taken his job with great pride. His work ethics are of a high standard. He is one who rarely misses a day of work. He has an avid routine, which he enjoys, that consists of his many duties that are never left undone. He has been our evening custodian, who has consistently ensured that the building is in great shape for the following day.

Allen is a huge part of our family at Delta Technical Center. We enjoy laughing with him, hearing his wisdom, integrity, and his life experiences. He has a big heart and is always willing to help anyone. He is such a great example to all of us! We wish him the best in his retirement!

Laurie Holt

Media Specialist

Fillmore Middle School

29 years

thumb HoltMug

Laurie Holt is retiring from Fillmore Middle School after 29 years with the district. She began her adventure working at Fillmore Middle School in 1988 as an instructional assistant helping with special needs students. Some of the other positions she held over the years include 6th grade P.E., 5th grade P.E., 6th grade social studies, and is finishing strong as the school librarian.

Occasionally, a student will come in and ask her if she has a specific book in the library, and sometimes they will give a vague description of the book they would like to check out. One of her favorite instances was when someone came in and asked her if there was a red book with a girl on the front cover. The pupil couldn’t remember the name of the book or the author. With such an obscure description, it was impossible to know what book they wanted to read. She is going to miss these types of instances and all of the students and the staff. She loves talking with kids and getting to know them better and she will miss the camaraderie of the staff. Dr. Seuss Day just won’t be the same without her. She always had such fun competitions and AR prizes. Her retirement will definitely leave big shoes to fill.

Jeanne Lovell

Instructional Assistant

Delta High School

26 years

thumb LovellMug

Jeanne Lovell has loved and cared for the special education students in Millard School District for 26 years. The majority of those years have been spent at Delta High where she has tutored students in science, history, language arts, government, and social and life skills. She has shown tender love and care to our students with the greatest needs, and always treats them with kindness and respect. Her retirement leaves a big hole in our department; but her family will reap the benefits of her new flexible schedule and extra time at home.

Jeanne and her husband Ed are the parents of three children and grandparents to nine; eight boys and one girl. When asked what she looks forward to upon her retirement, she replied, “Anything I want!”

We’re so grateful for Jeanne and for all she has done for our students and for our school. We will miss her, but are very excited for this next chapter in her life. We wish her all of the best. Thank you Mrs. Lovell. We love you!!!

Mylene Memmott

Instructional Assistant

Fillmore Elementary School

26 years

thumb MemmottMug

Mylene Memmott has been a valuable member of Fillmore Elementary and Millard School District for the past 26 years. She has worked in preschool, 4th grade, Special Education, ESL and even substituted driving the bus. She loves working with children and always gives them great care and attention. Her favorite part, however, is helping them learn to read. She received such joy from watching children change and grow up through the years. Even now that joy continues by teaching some of those kid’s children!

She and her husband, Randall, have six children, 22 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom she loves and spoils. In addition to her children, she has loved the relationships and friendships she has developed over the years. She feels there are such wonderful people here and we all feel the same way about her. We will all miss Mylene’s presence here at FES and are grateful for her in our lives.

Mylene’s hobbies include reading, gardening, and spending time with her kids and grandkids. After retirement, she plans on doing lots more of all of those things. We know Mylene will continue to enrich the lives of all those around her. We are grateful for all Mylene has done and all that she accomplished for Fillmore Elementary School over the years.

Bruce Robison

Head Custodian

Fillmore Middle School

35 years

thumb BruceRobisonMug

Bruce Robison is retiring from Fillmore Middle School after a 35-year career. He started working at FMS in 1988 as a custodian. He was a custodian for the entirety of his employment. From 2000 to 2006 he also taught the building trades class at Millard High School for a half day on B days in addition to his custodial duties. Fun fact: prior to his employment at FMS, he did concrete work on the building while it was being built. We will miss him making sure that our walkways and driveways are clean and free of snow, and he always keeps the school lawn looking fantastic. We feel privileged to have gotten to know him through the years and are fortunate to have been able to work with him. He really feels fulfilled when he looks at what he’s accomplished for the day and can take satisfaction in a job well done. He really is a “jack of all trades.”

Although he is going to miss the students and the staff, he plans to spend his retirement working on projects at home and spending time with his family. His wife Mary is also retiring this year, and they will keep busy following grandkids to their various activities. He also likes spending time in the great outdoors with his boys and will continue hiking, hunting, fishing, and camping with them.

Mary Robison

Instructional Assistant

Fillmore Elementary School

31 years

thumb MaryRobisonMug

Mary Robison will be retiring from Millard School District after 31 years of dedicated service. After receiving her degree, she worked in Millard High School’s lunch program for approximately 12 years. Mary then transferred to Fillmore Elementary where she has contributed her many skills to both the lunch program and our preschool classes. Mary said her favorite part of the job was working with the many students she’s encountered. However, all the treats and lunches provided by various people weren’t too bad either!

Mary has been married to the love of her life, Bruce for 47 years. Together they have three children and nine grandchildren which are a great blessing to her. She is grateful for all the faculty and staff and for their love and kindness throughout the years. She appreciates the many friends she has made along this path and loves them dearly. It is easy to return that love and appreciation to Mary ten-fold. She has been an instrumental part of the FES family and we will not only miss her abilities, but her friendship, smiles, and sense of humor. She will be missed and we all wish her well as she enters the next chapter of her life!

Elaine Roper

6th Grade Teacher

Delta Middle School

39 years

thumb RoperMug

Elaine Roper will be retiring from Delta Middle School this year after nearly 40 years in the classroom. She has been a dedicated and accomplished educator that will truly be missed. Elaine graduated from Southern Utah University in 1984 with a degree in elementary education and early childhood education. She began her teaching career in Roosevelt, where she taught both first and then third grade. After teaching there for four years she made the decision to get closer to family and accepted a 5th grade position at Delta Middle School in 1988. During the 35 years she has been at DMS, she has taught both 5th and 6th grade.

Throughout the years she has dedicated to teaching, she has always exceeded and surpassed all expectations in her planning, preparation, and classroom teaching. She has always had high expectations for her students and she has helped them demonstrate that success in all their accomplishments.

She has impacted countless lives and has a heart of gold. One of her many talents was to find class books that the students would love to hear her read during that “golden hour” right after lunch. Roper loves to travel and was able to incorporate that love into her classroom teaching. Students could often be found in her classroom practicing origami, and beading techniques. She has instilled her love for Japan and other cultures in her students. It will be difficult to measure the breadth of her influence in our community.

We all wish her the very best in all that life offers at this great time of life!!

Dorrie Rowley

4th Grade Teacher

Fillmore Elementary

36 years

thumb RowleyMug

Dorrie Rowley is retiring from Fillmore Elementary School and Millard School District after a 36-year career. Over the years she has taught third grade, fourth grade, and even a third/fourth split for two years. She has shared many skills, talents, and life lessons with her students over the years.

Dorrie is married and she and her husband, John, have two children and six wonderful grandchildren. When she leaves Fillmore Elementary School, she will take many memories with her. Among those memories will be the wonderful students and staff she has had the privilege of working with. Two of her favorite memories include teaching her daughter in third grade and being able to connect with a very angry little boy simply by telling him “I love you.” The feelings are mutual for us! We love Dorrie and all the memories she has given us. She always has a joke to share and has a way of making those around her laugh and smile.

Upon retiring, she plans to spend more time with her family, traveling with her husband, quilting, crafting, reading, and using the bathroom whenever she wants! We know she will enjoy her time immensely and find endless ways to fill her time and share her love. Dorrie, the privilege has been entirely ours. We’ll miss you!

thumb JuneRowleyMug

June Rowley has been the teaching assistant at Garrison Elementary School for the past 21 years and the custodian for 39 years. She has done a wonderful job at both! She takes great care of the kids and of the school.

Garrison Elementary has grades kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd in one classroom, and they all bring their own lunches. June works with the Kindergarten students during reading and math textbook time.

She also works with all of the students on special projects such as string art and Young Author’s Fair books and other projects related to the social studies and science units. She also helps students who are behind on their work or with those that have been absent. Besides these things, she also does a lot of recess duty and heats up the student’s lunches.

June is a wonderful artist. She has made the costumes and set for the Christmas Program each year. She also makes a wonderful backdrop each year for the annual “Winter Carnival.”

As mentioned, June has also been the custodian. She plants beautiful flowers each year and takes care of the lawn. Thanks to June, the school grounds are beautiful!

June is retiring to spend more time with her husband, Lavon. We wish June the very best in her retirement! Thank you June for all that you have done for our school!
