Harry was born on October 13, 1943 in Darby, Idaho; the 3rd child of 7 born to Eugene E. and Cristel Hill Smith. He grew up in Southeastern Idaho, and as a child, he learned to work hard, play hard, and developed a true passion for horses. In his teenage years he took a job digging potatoes for a local farmer where he grew his love for farming and met the love of his life. The 17-year-old Harry married the farmer's daughter, Coleen Muehlfeit, on November 19, 1960 and they continued their adventures for the next 60 years, bringing two sons, Todd and Randy, and a daughter, Christie, along for the ride. After only 59 years of their marriage, Harry decided to fully commit; and he and Coleen were sealed in the Payson Temple on February 1, 2019.

After high school graduation, Harry moved to the Salt Lake Valley in order to better provide for his family. He finished his electrical apprenticeship and took a job as an electrician with Wasatch Electric, where he worked for more than 40 years. His love of farming continued, and in 1984 he moved his family to Deseret to have a farm of his own.

Horses were never far from Harry's mind and he spent thousands of hours in the West Desert where his love of wild horses became both a hobby and a destiny. Time spent at his secret paradise, known only as "hole in the rock" yielded numerous adventures, quality time around the campfire, and countless memories.

Even following his Parkinson's diagnosis, Harry maintained his sense of humor, quick wit, and love for his family. His family thanks Intermountain Hospice, especially Sheri and Alexis, along with Bonnie Vadnais for the care and comfort they provided to Harry in his final days. We also extend a sincere thank you to ward members, neighbors, and friends for the countless hours spent in service to our family.

Harry is preceded in death by his parents: Eugene and Cristel Smith; daughter: Christie; grandson: Hank; and a few good horses. He is survived by his wife: Coleen; sons: Todd (Terri) Smith, Randy (Kasee) Smith; siblings Grant (Irene) Smith, Max (Karen) Smith, Mabel (Burleigh) Tomchak, Buzz Smith, Martha (Bruce) Johnson, Bennie (Shauna) Smith. He is also survived by the lights of his life, his grandchildren: Cody (Sydney) Briggs, Sarah (Brian) Thompsen, Britny (Cody) Adams, Cody (Ashley) Smith, Jessie and Marissa Salaiz, and Dagen, Samantha, and Quincy Smith, along with seven great-grandchildren and many friends.

In respecting Harry’s dislike for big gatherings, no public viewing will be held. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, May 20, at 11:00am, at the Delta City Cemetery. Following the service, the family invites those who would like to visit and celebrate Harry’s life to join them at a luncheon at the Delta City Park. Condolences may be left at www.nicklemortuary.com.
