A passing motorist discovered a fatal accident along SR-21 near milepost 5 last week in far west Millard County, according to a Utah Highway Patrol report.

The driver of a black 2016 Jeep Wrangler was traveling west along the state route toward Garrison when he left the pavement and over-corrected “several times,” eventually rolling the vehicle into a large culvert.

The driver, Karl Hanson, 48, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene, according to UHP Sgt. Greg Kelsey.

Police suspect the accident occurred sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sept. 27. The crash was not easily visible form the road, police reported.

No other details were available Monday by press time.
