Man charged after kicks out patrol unit’s window, tries to cut own throat with glass

A Delta man is being held without bail in the Millard County Jail following a skirmish Friday morning.

Tazz Andrew Riding, 29, was taken into custody after deputies received a report of an assault in progress, and that weapons were allegedly involved.

A probable cause report states Riding and the victim were found near 200 S in Delta, and that Riding “was physically non compliant during a pat down for weapons.” Riding later consented to being searched, during which the deputy allegedly found an empty knife sheath and suspected drug paraphernalia with burnt residue.

Riding stated during an initial interview that he and the victim had gotten into an argument and he wanted out of the vehicle he, the victim, and a witness were inside.

“Tazz stated he shoved victim with his forearm asking the victim to let him out,” the report states. The victim, however, said Riding went further.

“Victim also stated Tazz took a knife and held it to her throat. A witness inside the vehicle confirmed that Tazz had grabbed the victim by the throat, as well as held a knife to her throat,” the report continues.

Riding was taken into custody and placed in the back of a deputy’s vehicle, where he allegedly kicked a window out, and threatened to do it again if he wasn’t allowed a cigarette when placed into a separate deputy’s vehicle.

He allegedly told deputies “he has lost everything,” the report stated, and attempted to use a broken shard of glass to cut his own throat.

An inventory of the vehicle was conducted once Riding was in custody, which yielded two knives. A test of the burnt residue tested presumptive positive amphetamines.

Riding has a criminal history in Millard County. He is scheduled to make an appearance in Fourth District Court this morning on third-degree felony aggravated assault charges as well as property damage, weapon possession, drug possession, paraphernalia possession and interference of an officer charges.
