Jay T. Rogers passed away at his home in Fillmore, Utah at the age of 89 on April 29, 2021.
He was born June 20, 1931 in Fillmore to J. Noah Rogers and Daisy Webster Rogers. He had a desire to be a Geologist and eventually attended the University of Utah where he studied geology and mathematics. Afterwards he filled his life with adventure exploring the vast expanse of desert and mountains in Millard County. He shared this love and knowledge with those who had the pleasure of going on trips with him. You would be treated to detailed explanations and descriptions of the geological surroundings around you.
During the Korean War, Battery C of the 213th Field Artillery National Guard was called to duty; 143 young men from East Millard proudly served. They operated tanks and big guns in major battles in Korea. Jay, with his mathematical education and training, was in charge of fire direction control. This group of men developed into one big band of brothers. Jay Rogers, Jerry Warner, Frank Sweeting and Phillip Russell were the last remaining men of the group.
Returning home, Jay, along with his father Noah, pioneered and built up the ranch and farm in Flowell, UT. They raised alfalfa lucerne seed, and high quality black angus beef. Generations of family continued to assist Uncle Jay at the farm and ranch over the years.
Jay was proud of teaching gun safety courses to young shooters in Fillmore for many years. He also was the Fillmore weatherman for 43 years. Jay faithfully took weather readings every day at 5pm and called them into the American Weather Association. The AWA retired him in his eighties as one of the longest serving weathermen. He received a special commendation and plaque for his outstanding service.
Survived by his sister: RuJean Rogers Brunson; nephew and nieces: Cecilia Colledge, Jim Brunson, Leslie Brunson, Tina Garrett, Lisa Deiley, LaVar Reeves, Kerrie Lee Ainsworth, Collette Higley, Cameron Colledge, Emily Colledge, Jay Wallace, Curtis Wallace, Charles O'Hara, Noah Hardy, Jed Hardy, Thad Hardy, Leigha Hardy, and Mikayla Smith. As well as many great-great nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by sister: Daisy Lee Rogers Colledge; nephews and nieces: Linda Larson, Teresa Hardy, Laurelee Colledge, Keith Brunson, Ralph "Buster" Colledge, and Mariyln Morrill; great-nieces Charlotte.
Jerry, Jim, and David Warner were our three brothers-of-the-heart and shared a special part of our lives. Also sharing a special place in our lives were our cousins Frank, and Roger Eldredge, Max and Mike Riley Rogers, who were raised as little brothers to RuJean, Jay, and Daisy Lee.
We will miss the stories and family adventures with Uncle Jay, but we are at peace knowing he is now with his favorite people. A memorial service was held May 8, 2021, at 1 p.m. at the Pahvant Senior Citizens Center. Online condolences and a recorded memorial services link at rasmussenmortuary.com
