Peter H. Ewert, Born Sunday, September 25, 1938 in Driesen, Germany.
Son of Herbert August Ewert and Erna Hedwig Anna Beelitz, graduated from mortality Sunday, April 30, 2023 at the Utah Valley Hospital, he was 84. A memorial celebration of life will be held in Pete's honor May 24, 2023, 6 p.m. at the Fillmore Stake Center in Fillmore, Utah.
Pete was an avid outdoorsman and self-proclaimed fitness nut. He loved his daily swims and hitting the gym regularly. Pete had a passion for riding motorcycles and ATVs. He loved camping in the mountains, the beach, classical music and most of all, he loved his family. With the help of the whisperings of the Holy Ghost, Pete grew in his love for his Father in Heaven and redeemer Jesus Christ throughout his life. Pete developed a heart of kindness. Some of his last words were, "Please, tell everyone to be kind. I've learned, we have too much to lose otherwise."
Growing up during World War II in northern Germany, Pete's family immigrated to America when he was 14 years old. They received the necessary ordinances to become a forever family under the sacred covenants of the LDS church at the Salt Lake City Temple on the 19th day of March, 1954.
Pete had an abiding love for the ideals of America's constitutional liberties. He often said, "You are an American by chance. I am an American by choice."
Pete was drafted into the army at the age of 19 and served in Korea. A tuberculosis diagnosis sent him to the Fitzsimons Army Medical Hospital for a grueling 11-month recovery. Pete's dedication to restoring his health after Korea became a driving force throughout his life. He was proud of his military service and being an army veteran.
Pete's ability to commit himself to and achieve a goal was the foundation of his life. He loved deeply and was fiercely loyal. He spoke plainly and honestly. Nothing mattered more than protecting and providing for his family. He worked with the US Postal service for 47 years. These are some of the strong examples he modeled for his children, nieces and nephews and grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pete married the love of his life, Kristine Wright, in the Logan Temple, on March 31, 1967. Their marriage was blessed with 3 spectacular souls, William Herbert, Heidi Kristine, and Hans Peter, whom he loved completely and without question. His children knew that poppa had their backs, no matter what. "We knew and still know that he put us first." Actually, isn't that about the most wonderful thing anyone could say about their parents; to know you are cherished? In the end, little else matters.
Pete and Kris moved to Fillmore UT. in June of 2012 where they fell in love with the Fillmore trails, the Tushar mountains and the people of the community. His family all hoped for one more ride on the Fillmore loop with him, but that will wait until a reunion in another place and time. Until then, ride free my love.
