July 1, 1984 ~ July 24, 2023

LeGrand's spirit has departed his mortal frame.

He will be remembered and missed by those who were his close friends and family.

He was a friend to people of all ages. He had the capacity to love individuals many found difficult to love. This was demonstrated by his willingness to forgive those who wronged him. When others crossed his family, he felt it personally.

Service to his fellow man and love of community and country were enduring principles he learned as he earned the highest rank of Eagle in scouts. He served his neighbors by chasing dogs out of their herds, helping to bury loved pets, and pasturing their animals. He attended his town celebrations even when it was not convenient. Over the last year, he intermittently helped care for the cemetery. For a few years, he enjoyed entering cars in the local derby as well as helping others with their derby cars. He served on a larger scale one season in the American Red Cross with clean up after a hurricane.

He had a career running heavy equipment. He was prepared for this career by growing up in a farming community as well as attending and graduating from Heavy Equipment Operating School. While at school in another state, he had a weekly subscription to his hometown paper. Reading the paper, including the grocery sales and police blotter, continued the rest of his life.

LeGrand is the son of Preston and Alice Finlinson and brother to Wayne, Russell, and Nancy.

Visitation will be at the Oak City Church House on August 12, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. All are invited to attend.
