Gary was born in Deseret, Utah on Sept. 27, 1939 to Ormus L. Dutson and Winona Dewsnup Dutson. Gary was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he served an LDS mission in Newscastle, Wyoming and Spearfish, South Dakota. He was educated at Snow College, Utah State University, and BYU before his father's failing health called him home to run the family business Dutson Honey.

As a beekeeper, he trucked bees to South Dakota, California, and Canada to pollinate almond trees, clover, orange trees, and alfalfa fields among many others. He bought his first land at the age of 19 and enjoyed growing alfalfa and raising cattle while continuing the bee business. He was always willing to try new ventures like raising buffalo and ostriches, which made life very exciting. He married Loene Owens in the LDS Provo Temple on July 28, 1988, becoming the step-father to three children, Aaron, Cheree, and Sheena, whom he taught to farm and share his love of animals.

Gary was a patient teacher, a confidant, a loving provider, and a mentor to all he met, including his many nieces and nephews who learned the value of hard work, the joy of bringing in a good crop, and the fun of filling honey bears, painting bee boxes, and making bee medicine at his side.

Gary will always be remembered for his strength of character, his unwavering faith, and his love of traveling for his business. He was a diehard BYU fan, an avid reader of church books, a collegiate basketball player, an animal lover, and the truest spirit of the hard working farmer to be found. His smile, his laugh, and his voice as he sang along to Shania Twain and Brooks & Dunn will never be forgotten.

Gary enjoyed riding horses, driving the farm roads, and teaching kids the intricacies of farm life. His valuable lessons and never-surrender attitude will stay with all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Loene Dutson, and his children, Aaron Bell (Katie), Cheree Alsop (Michael), and Sheena Leany, along with his 7 grandchildren, Myree, Aiden, and Ashton Alsop, and Emma, Chloe, Ethan, and Jake Bell. He is also survived by his brother Gill Dutson, and he was proud to turn the honey business over to his nephew and dear friend Chris Dutson to carry on the Dutson family name.

Gary is preceeded in death by his loving parents, Ormus and Winona Dutson, by his sister Loma Dutson, his brother June Dutson, and his beloved dogs Spot, Lammie, and Bear.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023, at the Deseret-Oasis Ward at 4500 S 3423 W, Delta, UT 84624. Internment will be in the Deseret City Cemetery.
