March 7, 1932 ~ Jan. 13, 2024

Emerson Stevens Lyman (age 91) passed away peacefully at his home in St. George Utah, Saturday, January 13, 2024, surrounded by many of his loved ones.

Emerson was born March 7, 1932, in his childhood home in Holden, Utah to Francis Marion Lyman Jr.  and Clara May Stevens Lyman.  His sister, Rhoda, proceeded him in death. Emerson is survived by his sister Bertha Ellen Lyman Payne and seven children:  Denna, Doug, Ed, Annie, Jeannie, Becky, and Polly.

Emerson married Pearl LeGene Quinlan in the Salt Lake LDS Temple June 4, 1954.  Following LeGene's death, Emerson married his childhood friend Bonnie Nixon Christensen on March 6, 2004, and gained four additional wonderful children: Sandy, Richard, Kellee, and Pat. Emerson's extended posterity includes an abundance of children and great grandchildren.

Emerson was a hard worker; at the age of 4, he began working with his uncle herding cattle on horseback. Emerson was put in charge of the family farm and finances at the young age of 12. He supported his elderly parents until their deaths. He served his community as a schoolteacher, school principal, university professor, and Director of the BYU World Champion Ballroom Dance Team.

Emerson excelled in building, repairing, farming, gardening, and reading.

A highlight of his life was serving an LDS mission in Nauvoo, Illinois with his beloved wife Bonnie from December 2005 to September 2007.

The viewing will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by services at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints in Holden, Utah on Thursday, January 18, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you honor his memory by performing a kind service for someone in need.
