Arlene Evelyn Young Steimle, age 99 of Meadow, Utah, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024 in Meadow, Utah.
She was born on February 21, 1924 to Clair Estal Young and Blanche Eudora Young. Arlene was the second of three children. She was raised in Southern California, both a city and a country girl. She graduated from University High School in West Los Angeles in 1941, where she met her husband to be, Victor Eugene Steimle. She attended Sawyer Business School and developed excellent skills in typing and shorthand. During the war years, Arlene worked as a legal secretary for an attorney, then at Douglas Aircraft in West Los Angeles, California.
After Victor, (Vic) returned from his Western States Mission, and just before he joined the navy in WWII, Vic and Arlene married civilly married on March 26, 1944 and honeymooned/traveled to Mesa, Arizona and were sealed in the Mesa, Arizona Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 29, 1944.
During WWII, Vic was serving in the South Pacific when their first child, Michael Victor was born. As many young newlywed women did during war time, Arlene had the support of her parents and lived with them in West Los Angeles, California, until Vic came home.
Vic and Arlene lived an adventurous life with their three children, mainly settling in Southern California, except for a two-year period when Vic had a gleam in his eye to try his hand at ranching in Susanville, Lasson County California. Arlene was always supporting and a partner to Vic in his adventures and his fixing things up that were run down; from purchasing an old motorboat and restoring it to new to deep sea fishing and weekend travels to Catalina Island – to Vic, purchasing an old Cessna 4-seater airplane – fixing it up for new adventures so they could fly to their old pioneer summer home in Panguitch, Utah – which they purchased in a dilapidated state and spent many hours together on scaffolding to plaster the high ceilings and exposed walls. They traded their deep-sea fishing boat in for a lake boat and a new family motto: "no work gets in the way of fishing." They later served together in the San Diego Temple for five years.
After fifty-one years of marriage, Vic passed away in June of 1995. Arlene sold their ranch-home in Rancho California and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to be closer to her children. During this time, she served in the Las Vegas Temple and started a new adventure, being a full-time grandmother for twenty-two foster and three adopted children.
Arlene is survived by her children, Michael (Mickey), Katherine (Kathy), and Terressa (Terrie), her grandchildren: STEIMLE: James, Chelle, Julie, Aaron, David, Lucas, Kristi, Sandy Elizabeth, Adam, Natilie, Jonothon; BEAL: Joseph, Andrea, Stephanie, Kari; SMART: Elizabeth, Breanna, Damon, Zaine, 33 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. For many years while their birth children lived far away, Vic and Arlene "adopted" the RABJOHN family as their own: Eric, Laurel, their three children: Dane, Scot, and Brittany, were treasured as their own.
Services for Arlene will be held at the Meadow, Utah Ward Chapel on Wednesday, February 14. The viewing will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. Immediately after the funeral, Arlene will travel to Boulder City Nevada. Thursday, February 15, at the Boulder City Municipal Cemetery, Arlene and Vic will rest together again. The family is invited to the gravesite dedication service at 11 a.m. (Nevada time).
